Third Rajasthan Car Rally organized by the Eye Bank Society of Rajasthan and Sight Savers International

It was a fun-filled sunny Sunday morning as a lot of people gathered to participate in the third Rajasthan Car Rally, in the city, with visually challenged people as participants.
Interestingly, we didn’t see yawning faces, but fresh and energetic people who were all raring to go. The rally, organized by the Eye Bank Society of Rajasthan and Sight Savers International, had 43 cars, wherein a normal person drove the car while a visually challenged person acted as the navigator, armed with information given in Braille, about the route chart, speed limit and direction.
Zip, Zap, Zoom
The rally was flagged off in the morning by CK Mathews, chief secretary of the state, and after the first car – a vintage car – was flagged off, other cars were sent at a gap of one-and-a-half minute.Passing through the routes assigned to each car, the rally took about two hours to finish near Kukas. There were speed and time checks at various points as the rally strictly observed the time and speed format. The regional-in-charge of the Sight Savers International, George, “The message of the rally is simple – A visually-challenged person can productively contribute to the society and can lead a normal life.”
Thumbs up to the cause
The prime focus of the rally was to raise awareness about the abilities of the persons with disabilities and thanks to the cause, everyone was elated to be associated with the event. Bhavna Jagwani, one of the founding members of the EBSR said, “We hope to send out a message of unity and aim to create a sense of awareness about visually-challenged people’s abilities.” We also spotted Rishi Miglani with wife Pooja, and Sandeep Bhutoria, among others at the do.”
